There is a chatbar in the game which you can use to communicate with other penguins. There are two types of chatbars: Ultimate Safe Chat and Standart Safe Chat. While you're creating your penguin, if you choose Ultimate Safe Chat, you won't be able to write everything you wish. You can only use expressions in the chatbar.
To write your own mesages, you need to choose Standart Safe Chat. After you choose your chat mode, you can use the chatbar below to text anything. But you have to have a prents account so as to do that.
Penguin Mail
You can send postcards anyone that is your friend. To reach your mailbox, click the mail icon from the top of the screen. If you have new postcrads, you'll see those in there. Now, what can you do in this mailbox;
To send a friend of yours a postcard, open the postcards list, pick what postcard you want and send it. Also, you have to pay 10 coins for each postcard.

On Club Penguin, some of the emoticons are only sent by using some keys on your keyboard. There is a list which includes all the secret emoticons:

Using the emoticons which are on the chatbar is a great way to communicate with other penguins. You can tell them exactly how you feel that moment. To use them, click the smile icon from the chatbox and you'll see a long list. During each party on the island, there are new emoticons for the party.

There are a few actions your penguin can do. Click on the sitting penguin icon. You'll find some actions such as dancing, shaking hand and sit. Also you can throw snowball to other penguins, click the snowball icon from the chatbar and click somewhere on the room.
